IntroductionI’m Digital, but call me Digi.
Irish, but based in Finland at the moment. Freelance consultant specialising in formal and vocational education and training, from secondary through to higher education, with particular emphasis on the use of information technology to bring together those who can provide education services delivery with those who need it. Specialised skills in assessment and accreditation of courses and institutions in public and private sector, with many years experience in Asia Pacific, working towards Millennium Development Goals in basic education reform and education for sustainable development.
Using the Openlife Grid in Education and Training
Two reasons I am here.
Firstly, on the Openlife Grid my plans are to explore the ways in which we can integrate this world into our real world as a tool to improve the quality of life on earth and our planet’s biodiversity. If you feel you can contribute in some way I’d love to hear from you – either as a content creator with ideas for creating awareness of endangered flora and fauna and sustainable environments on Gaia, advancements in knowledge and innovation on Danaus, or making a contribution as a resident living on the Danaus Foundation Cluster by calling it your home and renting land on Phoenix and Merina.
Secondly, It’s great fun. Meeting lots of interesting people, being a pioneer, travelling roads least travelled. If you would like to know more contact me inworld (IMs will get forwarded if I am not online) or better still send me a message here (and add me as a friend if you like) and I’ll get in touch.
Rental of Tropical Islands and Land for Content Creators
For more information on renting your own tropical island or setting up a craft and content creation business on the archipelago refer to this link
Made on the Openlife Grid
One driving theme for the Danaus Foundation Cluster is that content created specifically for the Openlife Grid is actively encouraged here. Whilst there may be some legacy content from other grids I am keen to show that the the Openlife Grid can become distinctively different from other grids, with its own unique attractions. Hence I am pleased to use the Made on the OLG Logo.
Audio and Video
Real Digi’s interests include travelling, listening to and playing traditional Irish music and world music. If it has 4 strings tuned GDAE he can probably play it. He also composes music when the mood takes him. All the soundtracks you hear on the videos here are original compositions. The Openlife Grid opens a new dimension to media. If you need advice on playing music or displaying video inworld or need to create a video or music streams I would be pleased to help.

An Ráth – Island Theatre
Culture comes to Merina with the construction of an open-air theatre in a unique style – a ringfort. Ringforts were fortified settlements from the Iron Age, Early Christian and Early Medieval period in Northern Europe, especially Ireland. Over 45,000 sites have been identified as ringforts (ráth, in Irish) throughout Ireland. An Rath, the ringfort on Merina, is characteristic of the more well-preserved sites in Ireland.

Trance Sphere on Danaus
This is a spin off from some experimental work I was doing, and I thought it worth setting up for all to use – the Trance Sphere. Perhaps Goa Trance music isn’t for you. I’m not too keen on it but the audio visual effects are worth a trip 🙂
So chill out and tune in to your inner self in the Trance Sphere. Teleport to Danaus. At the arrival point take the TP to the Trance Sphere. Turn on the media panel (video) on your viewer, turn the volume up, sit on the ‘imm… Continue

On Saturday, March 28, 8:30-9:30pm, local time, millions of people on our planet will be switching off their lights for one hour – Earth Hour.
For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will b… Continue

HistoryThe Isle of May Lighthouse lies at the mouth of the Firth of Forth, off the Scottish coast. The island’s history dates back to the ninth century as a Monastic settlement. In the twelfth century, King David I founded a monastery on the island. Benedictine monks continued in peaceful occupation until the fifteenth century when the monastery was abandoned after destruction in a storm. Apart from the lighthouse the island is also known for its bird… Continue

Dreamers.. What started as Digi’s Irish Music and Dance Bar, the first Irish bar on the grid, is nearly finished and will be ready in time for St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
It’s not based on a particular bar but of the generic style you might find lying between the drumlins of central Ireland. In Openlife it is more prominently located beside the Alician Seas on Merina.
Dreamer’s features a public bar and two lounges… Continue

The Great Sudoko Challenge
Responding to the call for new ideas for the grid … Here is the Great Sudoko Challenge.
It’s laid out on the lawn beside Dreamers – Irish Music and Dance Bar on Merina.
Come along and move the numbered blue cubes onto the board to complete the Sudoko puzzle. Script engine friendly – there arent any scripts in it; just right click edit and drag the cubes to where you think they should be on the board ( the pink cubes which give the starting numbers and… Continue

Openlife Media Player (Streamed Video/Movies) – Channels Update
The function llParcelMediaCommandList has been working for some time so it is possible to automate the loading of media (video/movie) into the media panel under script control. I have now updated the video_channels notecard with AFTV changes by Jim. For those of you who may have missed my forum post, and those interested in the new video channels list I’ll point you to the original forum post over on the OLG forums… Continue

Over on OL Forums I posted a reply to Mortus on his question below. I reproduce my reply here because it does tell you where you can watch movies with a loved one, legally, inworld on a prim, this holiday season.
I have a question for anyone who may know. My partner and I have been trying to find a way we can stream our DVD movies and/or TV from our computers to SL/OLG for a while now so that we could watch them together. … Does anyone know of a solution where one need not rip the DVD to Q… Continue

Pink Flamingos in Gaia
There are many reasons for people visiting virtual worlds. One of these is the immersive experience that can be fulfilled inworld but not in reality because of practical reasons – time, cost and distance limit our access to the wonders of our real world, such as the flamingos of Kamfers Dam in South Africa. These flamingos on their island, one of only four breeding locations in Africa, are under threat. Their plight is well publicised and 24 hour web cam allows any… Continue

Making Waves on Phoenix
I love my waves. They bring my island archipelago alive. Though silent at the moment I will add the sound of the surf on the beaches later. Describing my waves in writing doesn’t do them justice so I will let the Youtube video of the waves breaking against the shores of Phoenix residential rental islands below do the talking for me.
I thought of making my own waves but my friend Rosa’s help from over in the other place was too good to turn down. The waves were bu… Continue

An Experiment in Television in Openlife
As some of you are aware I have been experimenting with live video coverage of scenes within Openlife and notably some of the Foundations Residents’ meetings hosted by Sakai, the latter being particularly challenging in attempting, not very successfully, to display the live chat text as part of the video, in ways that won’t make viewers squint.
While I could go down the route of using a commercial video streaming hosting service to solve the probl… Continue

Stuck on Mainland Login?
Passengers in transit are welcome on Merina while they wait on flights or teleports to Mainland. Use Merina as your viewer’s start location.
Digital’s Irish Music and Dance Bar is now open on Merina. Rest your weary legs, talk to other stranded passengers, dance away to reels, jigs and songs streamed from Live Ireland, or just watch the video of the moment; currently an exciting rendition of Riverdance by a group of 12 Girls from Shanghai on traditional Chinese… Continue

I’ve had Digital here since May 2008, when Openlife was a spartan landscape with only a handful of pioneers shaping this new world to their dreams. I also had a second life but that is coming to a close now, as I spend more time in this world building a base for my real life personal and professional interests, far from the web of illusion, disillusion and fantasy spun by others in that other world.
I am happy to talk about my real life and my interests, both personal and professional, to anyon… Continue

Members Making a Difference
(From Digital Dreambuilder)I have created a venue where OLPC developers or educators can meet in a virtual environment, regardless of their physical location on the planet – the OLPC Centre on the Openlife Grid.
The Openlife Grid is a virtual world (Opensim architecture) that allows people to meet and interact in a virtual environment. In that environment your presence is represented by a character on screen (avatar).I am opening up the OLPC Openlife center as a place for any OLPC and XO developers and educators to meet. Although the location is virtual the immersive experience of ‘being present’ is there.Link to main story
